Emma Stone and Alicia Vikander by Andrew Pulver

The Danish Girl star Alicia Vikander and The Amazing Spider-Man’s Emma Stone have both been lined up to play a young Agatha Christie in biopics being developed at rival Hollywood studios.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Vikander has been approached by Sony to play the celebrated crime author in her formative years as a “proto-feminist” unhappy with traditional wife-and-mother expectations. Stone, on the other hand, has been pencilled in for Paramount’s take on Christie’s “missing” 11 days in 1926 – a subject already covered in Michael Apted’s 1979 film Agatha, which starred Vanessa Redgrave and Dustin Hoffman.

The resurgence of interest in Christie follows a flurry of interest from film-makers in getting film versions of the writer’s work off the ground. A forthcoming adaptation of her 1934 yarn Murder on the Orient Express has Kenneth Branagh in the director’s chair and Angelina Jolie in the cast, is due to start shooting this summer and will be released in 2017. A version of the 1939 mystery And Then There Were None was successfully aired on BBC1 at Christmas, and leading British film company Working Title are moving ahead with a feature film adaptation to be directed by The Imitation Game’s Morten Tyldum. However, a Julian Fellowes-scripted adaptation of Crooked House appears to have stalled, after an announcement in 2012 that Possession director Neil LaBute was on board.

The current activity around Christie’s work is ascribed to Acorn Media’s purchase of a 64% stake in the Christie estate in 2013 from entertainment company Chorion, who themselves had bought the rights to Christie’s work in 1998. Chorion had overseen the reworking of the Miss Marple stories for TV – a series which began in 2004 – but Acorn, who were the DVD distributors for Marple, are thought to have ambitions in the feature film arena. The last set of major big-screen adaptations arrived in the mid-1970s, with a cameo-studded cast coming together on Murder on the Orient Express in 1974 and Death on the Nile in 1978.

Any film adaptation of the writer’s work will also have to secure the approval of Christie’s descendants, who are thought to hold a 36% stake in the company that holds licensing rights.

RUSSIA -ITALIA 3-2 (19-25 25-15 25-22 22-25 15-10), posted June 19, 2016

Please continue praying for De Gennaro, Guiggi and Team Italy.
God bless them.

Novara:

EU-Kommissionspräsident Jean-Claude Juncker, UK and EU (AFP), posted June 22, 2016

Flore Bonaventura by Alexandre LETREN, posted 1 septembre 2014

All the best. God bless.

Gérard Depardieu plus Others (Not suitable for kids)

Gruppo 3: Finali (19 giugno)
3°-4° posto: Perù - Colombia 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-6)
Top Scorer: Leyva 32, Yllescas 15, Frias 13, Uribe 9, Rueda 9; Montano 30, Moreno Pino 27, Martinez 7.

1°-2° posto: Croazia - Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-19, 29-27, 25-16)

Gruppo 1: Pool D (19 giugno)
Belgio - Serbia 2-3 (26-24, 24-26, 23-25, 25-23, 10-15)
Cina - Brasile 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-20)

Laura Ludwig/Kira Walkenhorst (Not suitable for kids)

Laura Ludwig/Kira Walkenhorst, Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca, Natalia Dubovcova/Dominika Nestarcova plus Others

Olsztyn, Poland, June 18, 2016 - If anyone questions that Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst are not the best women’s Beach Volleyball team in the world, then they have not followed the Germans exploits the past five weeks highlighted by back-to-back gold medal finishes on the FIVB World Tour.

After topping the smart Major Hamburg podium last week in their hometown in Germany by defeating the second- and third-ranked teams on the list for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Ludwig and Walkenhorst completed the trifecta by defeating No. 1-rank Copacabana entrant Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca here Saturday afternoon to capture the gold medal at the US$800,000 Olsztyn Grand Slam on the Crooked Lake center court.

With their 2-1 (21-18, 15-21, 15-10) win in 41 minutes over the second-seeded Talita and Larissa, the third-seeded Germans split the $57,000 first-place prize after extending their personal winning streak to 21-straight victories. In losing to Ludwig and Walkenhorst for the third-time in four FIVB World Tour meetings, the Brazilians shared $43,000 for their silver medal performance.

Saturday’s final saw the Germans play well in the first set, not so well in the second set and struggling mid-way in the third and deciding set when Talita and Larissa overcame a 4-1 deficit to take a 9-8 lead with a three-point rally. Trailing 10-9, Ludwig and Walkenhorst closed out the match with six-straight points to notch the victory.

When asked about the gold medal match and the six-point run to close out the third set, Ludwig said “I still don't know. We knew we had to put pressure on them. And we did. We really wanted to serve good. We went for aces. Kira had two aces, I think. And then it just worked. Sometimes it's also a bit lucky, but we kept on fighting as a team and that was really the key."

When asked about winning four of their last five tournaments, including the European Championships at the start of June, Walkenhorst offered that for “some weeks we are playing very good now. We play our own game and concentrate every game, every point on ourselves. For sure there some times when it is not working out, like in the second set. But now we can fight back and keep fighting for every point. That's why we can turn around the game now."

Ludwig was asked about Olympics and peaking to early, and she said “that's a good question. We want to peak for sure in August. It also feels good that we play so well this early. We want to keep our rhythm, but we definitely still want to be better and we still can. Because we still make some mistakes, we have some problems like in the second set. And that is what we still want to work on.”

After placing on their third-straight podium this season without a gold medal, Talita said "this was not the result we wanted. But it was still a final. It was still a good match. Compliments for Germany. They just played better and we made a lot of mistakes. They served better, the digs and the attacks. They just played better in this match."

Sunday’s finale was the 18th gold medal meeting between the two countries with Brazil now leading 13-5 with Ludwig and Walkenhorst winning the last three finales from the South Americans. The two countries have combined for 162 women’s gold medals with Brazilians capturing 151 of the titles.

Ludwig and Walkenhorst advanced to their ninth FIVB World Tour gold medal match with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) Saturday morning semi-final win in 34 minutes over ninth-seeded qualifiers Eduarda “Duda” Lisboa and Elize Maia of Brazil. Talita and Larissa advanced to their 14th FIVB World Tour gold medal match with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) semi-final win in 34 minutes over 23rd-seeded Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova of the Slovak Republic.

In the bronze medal match, Dubovcova and Nestarcova placed on a FIVB World Tour for the first-time in almost two years by defeating Duda and Elize Maia 2-0 (22-20, 21-14) in 36 minutes in the first international match between the two teams. In collecting the $32,000 third-place prize, the Slovak Republic pair collected their third FIVB medal and first since July 2014 at the United States Grand Slam in Long Beach, Calif.

What made Dubovcova and Nestarcova’s performance this week so impressive in their 63rd FIVB World Tour events was upset wins over the first-, fourth-, sixth-, seventh- and ninth-seeded teams in the Olsztyn Grand Slam. In their previous two podium-placing events in 2014 in Norway (Stavanger) and the United States, the Slovak Republic pair totaled only two upset wins.

When asked about the match and winning a spot on the podium, Nestarcova said that “I will sleep with this medal tonight. We served really well and our -defense was great, especially Natalia's blocking. Dubovcova added that her team’s “side-out was quite stable. We were under pressure, but we handled it very good."

With the pair missing out qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games via the FIVB World Tour, Dubovcova and Nestarcova were asked about a second attempt next week at the European Continental Cup in Stavanger.

"It's important for our confidence to know that we are in good shape,” said Dubovcova. “It is such an important tournament. I am happy we beat such a good team from Brazil, so now we know we can beat anybody. We hope to keep going on this wave and bring this (medal) with us to Stavanger."
Nestarcova added that “we sent home the first-, fourth- and sixth-seeded teams in a row Friday. So I think we played very well and we deserved this."

The Olsztyn Grand Slam also features men’s elimination rounds Saturday with their semi-final and medal matches being played Sunday. The winning Olsztyn Grand Slam teams will share the $57,000 first-place prizes.

Congrats to all of you. God bless.

Led Zeppelin by Andy Serwer, posted June 14, 2016

Hey, man! Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” isn’t a ripoff!

Or so says one prominent rock critic. And if he’s right, that could mean tens of millions dollars for the band.

In case you haven’t heard, the estate of an obscure rock musician, Randy California, who played in a rather obscure rock band, Spirit, is suing Led Zeppelin for copyright infringement, alleging that the first few bars of the rock anthem “Stairway to Heaven” – released in 1971 – were cribbed from, you guessed it, an obscure Spirit song. (You can hear both tunes in the interview above.)

The two sides have been unable to settle, and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Robert Plant showed up court Tuesday for the start of the civil trial.

Alan Light, a former writer and editor at Rolling Stone and Vibe, and the author of books on Prince, Greg Allman and Tupac Shakur, says that while the chord progression of the two songs is similar, it just isn’t enough to merit infringement. “The precedent is you can’t copyright a rhythm or Bo Diddley would have been the richest man alive,” says Light. “And you can’t copyright a chord sequence or all the jazz players who were just playing variations on 'I’ve Got Rhythm' by George Gershwin…would all be illegal.”

Therefore Light says, infringement hasn’t occurred. “I don’t think a similar descending chord pattern is enough for that to be a ripoff that needs to be made good," says Light.

What’s at stake here? Serious bucks. Light estimates that "Stairway" has generated as much as $500 million in revenue for Led Zeppelin, as the band never released singles and the tune, which Light calls “possibly the most iconic and best-loved rock song of all time,” is also one of the most played songs in the world generating millions in royalty revenue. How much might that be going forward? Unknown of course, but one clue comes from the amount that Randy California’s estate is said to be seeking, which is $40 million. That is probably some sort of lump sum calculation of a portion of the net present value of "Stairway to Heaven’s" royalty stream going forward. The estate would also be willing to settle reportedly for a dollar plus royalties going forward.

Randy California, who drowned while surfing off Hawaii in 1997, never chose to sue, but his estate did in 2014, after the Supreme Court ruled that copyright cases could be pursued even years after the alleged initial infringement.

In a ruling last year, singer Robin Thicke (along with Pharrell Williams) was found liable for copyright infringement for pirating merely the sound and feel of a Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up” in Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” Before the ruling, Robin Thicke was dismissive, Light says. “It’s likely you won’t see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (Zep’s lead singer and guitar player, respectively) acting like that.”

Led Zeppelin has had to settle a number of copyright violation cases before, including claims on songs “Dazed and Confused” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

Menegatti/ Orsi Toth, Jennings/Ross, Antunes/Franca, Ludwig/Walkenhorst, Pavan/Bansley, Meppelink/Van Iersel, Bawden/Clancy plus Others

Hamburg, Germany, June 12, 2016 – The 15 women’s teams eligible to play in the 2016 Olympic Games Beach Volleyball competition have been confirmed - pending confirmation by their respective NOCs/NFs - following the completion of the 18-month Beach Volleyball Olympic qualification process via the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour on Saturday at the smart Major Hamburg.

The 15 highest ranked teams on the Olympic Ranking as of June 13, 2016 each earn one quota place for their NOC/NF to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, respecting the maximum of two quota places per NOC/NF. With the women’s finals in Hamburg having taken place on Saturday, the women's list is complete. The men’s list is expected to be confirmed later today following their finals in Hamburg.

The requirements for a team to earn a quota spot are: 12 events as a team on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour between January 1, 2015 and June 13, 2016; rank in the top 15 of the provisional Olympic rankings excluding Olympic host country Brazil and be one of the top two teams in your country that have satisfied the previous two requirements.

The top 15 on the provisional list exclude Brazilians as the South American country earned two berths in the Olympics when the women’s tandem of Agatha Bednarczuk/Barbara Seixas captured the 2015 FIVB World Championships last July in The Hague in addition to their host country vacancy, which went to Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca.

Robin De Kruijf, Folie, JENNY, plus Others by Imoco, posted June 11, 2016

Prince Harry and Olivia Tallent

Prince Harry and Olivia Tallent by Bruna Nessif, posted June 7, 2016

A possible new (and regal!) couple alert started making headlines after the young royal was posed in a photograph that labeled him as a young woman's boyfriend. But that's not actually the case, people. It was just a joke.

Olivia Tallent, daughter of Garry Tallent who is in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, had the wonderful pleasure of making Harry's acquaintance when Harry showed up to enjoy the band's performance at Wembley Stadium last night as part of their The River tour.

So, obviously, the 19-year-old took a snap with Harry. And, also obviously, captioned the adorable photo, "new boyfriend," on Twitter, because why waste the chance? She also posted the photo on her Instagram, and wrote, "Princess Olivia has a pretty nice ring to it, right?"

Well, as harmless as that may have been, it sparked romance rumors because people didn't get the joke (and also, because that's the way the Internet works). To that, we offer the gentleman's facial expression in the background of their picture as our response.

Tallent cleared the air soon afterward by tweeting to everyone who was speculating on their relationship, "I'm not actually dating Prince Harry, guys. Let's not be ridiculous here."

Prince Harry is no stranger to romance rumors. In fact, he's constantly thrown in the ring when it comes to whether or not a certain beauty has become the center of his love life, and one in particular has been in mentions for years now—Pippa Middleton.

Almost directly following the royal wedding between Kate Middleton and Prince William, their siblings were shipped by royal fans everywhere. And they almost got what they wanted when an article claimed Pippa and Harry were in a "secret romance" for years, but alas, it wasn't true.

The Daily Star printed the story in December 2015, but Prince Harry complained about it, saying the story was "completely untrue."

"The article had clearly attributed the claims about the complainant and Ms. Middleton to the U.S. magazine. While it had not contained a positive assertion of their truth, there was no suggestion that there was reason to doubt their veracity.

"Furthermore, the article had stated that 'Clarence House had declined to comment' but the newspaper had not argued—in response to the complaint—that such an approach had been made. The only conclusion which the committee could draw was that the newspaper had not sought to verify the claims, as reported."

So what have we learned? Calling Prince Harry your boyfriend will create a stir on the interwebs, and, more importantly, Prince Harry is still single.
