Ms. Eileen Brennan We Salute You

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eileen Brennan, who went from musical comedy on Broadway to wringing laughs out of memorable characters in such films as "Private Benjamin" and "Clue," has died. She was 80.

Brennan's managers, Jessica Moresco and Al Onorato, said she died Sunday at home in Burbank after a battle with bladder cancer.

"Our family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and respect for Eileen," her family said in a statement. "She was funny and caring and truly one of a kind. Her strength and love will never be forgotten."

Brennan got her first big role on the New York stage in "Little Mary Sunshine," a musical comedy that won her the 1960 Obie award for best actress. Along with her "excellent singing voice," her performance was "radiant and comic," said a New York Times review.

But it was a series of sharp-tongued roles that won her fans on television and in movies, including gruff Army Capt. Doreen Lewis in 1980's "Private Benjamin," aloof Mrs. Peacock in 1985's "Clue" and mean orphanage superintendent Miss Bannister in 1988's "The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking."

"I love meanies, and this goes back to Capt. Lewis in 'Private Benjamin,'" Brennan said a 1988 interview with The Associated Press. "You know why? Because they have no sense of humor. People who are mean or unkind or rigid — think about it — cannot laugh at themselves. If we can't laugh at ourselves and the human condition, we're going to be mean."

"Private Benjamin" brought her a supporting actress nomination for an Oscar. She also won an Emmy for repeating her "Private Benjamin" role in the television version and was nominated six other times for guest roles on such shows as "Newhart," ''thirtysomething," ''Taxi" and "Will & Grace."

"Our world has lost a rare human," said "Private Benjamin" star Goldie Hawn in a statement. "Eileen was a brilliant comedian, a powerful dramatic actress and had the voice of an angel. I will miss my old friend."

Brennan's "Private Benjamin" role led to an enduring friendship with Hawn. A couple of years after they filmed the movie, Brennan and Hawn had dinner one night in 1982 in Venice, Calif. As they left the restaurant, Brennan was struck by a car. Her legs were smashed, bones on the left side of her face were broken, her left eye socket was shattered. Brennan said she fought her injuries with rage.

"I was no saint," she said in an interview with Ladies Home Journal. "I was angry, and anger is a powerful emotion. It increased my determination not to go under, to get well."

Brennan became dependent on painkillers, and two years after the accident she entered the Betty Ford Center to cure her addiction.

"We get addicted to dull the pain of life," she told the magazine. "But once we accept that life is tough and painful, we can move on and grow and evolve."

A decade after the accident, she said she was glad she was struck by the car.

"You learn from powerful things," she said in 1992. "Initially, there's enormous anger, but your priorities get shifted around."

Brennan was a member of the original company of "Hello, Dolly" on Broadway. From the New York stage, she moved to the screen in "Divorce American Style" and "The Last Picture Show," a pair of appearances on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," and TV guest shots on everything from "All in the Family" and "McMillan & Wife" to "Kojak," ''The Love Boat," ''Murder She Wrote" and "Mad About You."

Brennan was born Verla Eileen Regina Brennan in Los Angeles. She was educated in convent schools and studied at Georgetown University and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Brennan is survived by her ex-husband, David John Lampson, and their two sons, Patrick and Sam.

Mama, take this badge off of me,

It's getting dark, too dark to see...
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door,
Knock, Knock, knockin' on heaven's door.
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door,
Knock, Knock, knockin' on heaven's door.

Mama, put my guns in the ground,
I can't shoot them any more...
That long black cloud is comin' down;
I feel like i'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door,
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door.

Mr. Bo Diddley--We Salute You, RIP

Mr. Bo Diddley - Who Do You Love

I walk 47 miles of barbed wire
I use a cobra snake for a necktie
I got a brand new house on the roadside
Made from rattlesnake hide

I got a brand new chimney made on top
Made out of a human skull
Now come on take a walk with me Arlene
And tell me who do you love?

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

Tombstone hand
And a graveyard mine
Just 22
And I don't mind dying

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

I rode around the town
Use a rattlesnake whip
Take it easy Arlene
Don't give me no lip

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

Night was dark but the sky was blue
Down the alley, ice-wagon flew
Hit a bump and somebody screamed
You should have heard just what I've seen

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

Arlene took me
By my hand
And she said, "Ooowee bo
You know I understand"

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

Syrian Crisis by Judy Molland

Syria is a country in crisis, and that crisis is rapidly becoming the world’s problem.

The civil war in Syria began over three years ago, in March 2011, with popular demonstrations that quickly grew nationwide. The demonstrations were part of the wider Middle Eastern protest movement known as the Arab Spring, and protesters demanded the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, whose family has held the presidency in Syria since 1971.

What Has Happened Since March 2011?

* More than 100,000 people have been killed, according to United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. That number is 7,000 higher than the number issued by the UN last month.

* Almost 2 million refugees have fled from Syria in the past two years. This situation is starting to resemble what happened in 1948 and 1967, when Palestinians were forced out of their homeland permanently. According to UN and other humanitarian officials, this has serious implications for countries nearby such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, where most of the refugees have found shelter.

* One in six people in Lebanon are now Syrian refugees, while in Jordan the biggest camp has become the country’s fourth-largest city. This huge number means that these countries are becoming overwhelmed, and Western countries may be asked to accept tens of thousands of Syrian refugees, according to the UN’s refugee chief.

* At least 4 million Syrians have been displaced within the country, in addition to the 2 million who have fled Syria, meaning that a quarter of the population of Syria have now been driven from their homes.

The Syrian Crisis Is Rapidly Becoming The World’s Crisis

From The Guardian:

“We are facing in the Middle East something that is more than a humanitarian crisis, more than a regional crisis, it is becoming a real threat to global peace and security,” [UN High Commissioner For Refugees António] Guterres said.

Guterres compared the Syrian refugee issue to that of Iraqis during the last decade, when more than 100,000 were resettled away from the region. “If things go on for a prolonged period of time then resettlement will become a central part of our strategy,” he said. “We would like when the time comes … to be able to launch a resettlement programme as massive as the one for Iraqis.”

Moving Forward?

Speaking in New York at the United Nations headquarters on July 25, both UN Secretary Ban Ki-Moon and U.S. Secretary John Kerry stressed the urgency of finding a political solution to the conflict.

This was Kerry’s first visit to the UN as the top diplomat for the U.S., and he seized the opportunity to call for Syria’s opposition coalition and President Bashar al-Assad’s government to commit to negotiations on a peaceful settlement to the country’s civil war, saying there “is no military solution.”

“There is only a political solution, and that will require leadership in order to bring people to the table,” Kerry told reporters.

However, the Syrian opposition, which remains deeply divided, has so far refused to participate in peace talks without an assurance that they would result in Assad’s exit from power.

But while these negotiations appear to be at a stalemate, is anyone noticing that this is the world’s most serious refugee crisis in a generation?

And as more and more Syrians flee their homeland, the effect on neighboring countries is inevitable. However welcoming they seek to be, the overwhelming influx of people into Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey has put pressure on local services such as schools, hospitals and job markets, and has created tension and hostility.

As a result, these countries are understandably starting to regulate and limit the number of refugees they can accept.

But no one knows when it will end. Have we learned nothing from the past?

Please pray for Syria. God bless.

The Moody Blues --"Higher and Higher"

Blasting, billowing, bursting forth
With the power of ten billion butterfly sneezes
Man with his flaming pyre
Has conquered the wayward breezes
Climbing to tranquility
Far above the cloud
Conceiving the heavens
Clear of misty shroud

Higher and higher
Now we've learned to play with fire
Go higher and higher and higher

Vast vision must improve our sight
Perhaps at last we'll see and end
To our homes endless blight
And the beginning of the free
Climb to tranquility
Finding its real worth
Conceiving the heavens
Flourishing on earth

Higher and higher
Now we've learned to play with fire
Go higher and higher and higher

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson by Rebecca Macatee

Scarlett Johansson sparked all kinds of engagement rumors when she stepped out some diamond ring on that finger Wednesday in L.A.
But the 28-year-old actress "is not engaged nor close to being engaged" to French journalist boyfriend Roman Dauriac, her rep told People.
So what's the real story behind Scarlett's new bling? According to a source, the Avengers star received the gold ring, complete with two stones—a diamond and a ruby, as a recent gift, but it's "simply a piece of jewelry."
This isn't the first time Ms. Johansson has worn a regular ring on what is typically a woman's engagement finger. In February she was spotted hand in hand with Romain wearing a pear-cut diamond—yes, on that finger—for no special reason at all.

Scarlett and Romain went public with their relationship in November 2012. She dated advertising exec Nate Naylor for about a year, calling it quits in October 2012, and was married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011.
But she's in no rush to walk down the aisle again. In an interview with Elle U.K. earlier this year, the blond beauty said she "never" thinks about marriage. "It's really not important to me," she added. "The only time I ever think about it is when people ask me, 'Would I get married again?' "
"I'm not having kids anytime soon," she continued. "I'm in a nice relationship, I'm working a lot and, like I said, it's not important to me."
Atta girl.

Cory Monteith Memoria by Marc Malkin

Cory Monteith was remembered earlier today during a private memorial in Hollywood.
"Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith," Fox said in a statement to E! News. "We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time."
Murphy told E! News last week that he was allowing Michele to take the lead on how to proceed with the show.
Production of season five will begin Aug 5, a week later than originally planned.

"I've never met any 26-year-old person stronger than Lea," Murphy said. "She's really been the leader in this situation, which is very unfair in a weird way because this show has always been so complicated about characters merging into personal lives, merging into public identity, so it's just all [bleeping] rough."
Monteith was found dead at age 31 in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13. Autopsy and toxicity results showed that the actor died of a drug overdose with heroin and alcohol found in his body.
Michele has not publicly commented on her boyfriend's passing.
"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends, and fans," her reps said in a statement on July 16. "Since Cory's passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them. They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory's family."

Monteith revealed in 2011 that he went to rehab when he was 19. But his demons returned earlier this year. He spent about 30 days at Betty Ford in the spring.
"I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this," Michele said in statement at the time. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision."
The couple's last public appearance together was on June 8 when Monteith walked his first red carpet since leaving rehab.
"I think he looks great, doesn't he?" Michele gushed to E! News. "He's the best."

One of Hollywood's sexiest geeks, indeed.
Danica McKellar, the erstwhile Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years, was spotted on the set of Avril Lavigne's music video for her new single "Rock N Roll" in some very un-Winnie-like attire.
The 37-year-old teen star turned math whiz sported the teeniest of tiny skirts over fishnet stockings that left zero to the imagination.

Let's just say, the title of McKellar's 2012 opus, Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape, has taken on a whole new meaning. (Or at least the existing double entendre just got raised to the 10th power.)
Her look is rounded out by a plunging crop top (nice abs, Miss Cooper), an even more cropped denim vest, stilleto-heeled booties and some wacky headgear.
It's like Wonder Woman meets She-Ra meets The Runaways. Surely just as Avril intended.
"Rock N Roll" is the second single off of the newlywed's upcoming fifth studio album. Both Lavigne and hubby Chad Kroeger are among the songwriters listed on the Max Martin-produced track.
But while Lavigne declares in the tune that she's the "motherfreakin' princess"...she better make room for another booty on that throne.

McKellar lends her voice to the animated series Young Justice and she appeared earlier this year on an episode of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

George Harrison - Stuck Inside A Cloud

Never slept so little
Never smoked so much
Lost my concentration I could even lose my touch

Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud

I made some exhibition
I lost my will to eat
The only thing that matters to me is to touch your lotus feet

Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
And I'm stuck inside a cloud

Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud

Never been so crazy
But I've never felt so sure
I wish I had the answer to give
Don't even have the cure

Just talking to myself
Crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart
Talking to myself
Now crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart

Marie Trintignant We Salute You

Marie Trintignant a beaucoup aimé.

Wes Scantlin by Peter Gicas

Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin has found himself in a bit of a messy situation.

E! News confirms that the band's frontman was arrested for vandalism in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Scantlin was said to be arguing with a neighbor when he allegedly took a buzz saw to his neighbor's patio, according to published reports. What's more, the rocker apparently struck a brick or cinder wall with a sledgehammer, claiming the wall was erected by the neighbor on his side of the property line.

Scantlin was subsequently arrested on charges of felony vandalism after police arrived on the scene.

This isn't the first time Scantlin has been in trouble with the law.

In May, he was arrested in Hollywood after police pulled him over for speeding and turned up two outstanding warrants, one stemming from a traffic violation and the other narcotics-related.

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty last July to felony cocaine possession and was granted 18 months' deferred judgment, during which he was ordered to undergo drug counseling. The L.A. County District Attorney's Office said the charge could be dropped from his record once he completed the program.

And last September, Scantlin was arrested—but never charged—after allegedly causing a drunken in-flight disturbance en route from Boston to Los Angeles that resulted in an unexpected stop in Texas.

By Andrea Gerlin & Michelle Fay Cortez posted July 23, 2013

Prince William’s wife, Kate, cast aside British tradition when she picked the team that helped her deliver her baby yesterday.

Instead of turning to a midwife, the method provided by the National Health Service and used by Queen Elizabeth II, the Duchess of Cambridge followed the U.S. practice of having doctors on hand for the birth of the boy who will be third in line to the British throne.

The royal birth was supervised by Marcus Setchell, 69, who serves as the queen’s gynecologist, and Guy Thorpe-Beeston, 53, an obstetrician who practices at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, central London, where Kate’s son was born yesterday. The baby, weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces (3.8 kilograms), is heavier than the average weight of boys born in the U.K., which has risen about 2 ounces to about 7 pounds, 8 ounces since 1971.

Kate, the first woman from outside royalty or the aristocracy to marry so close to the throne for 350 years, probably picked what seemed like the safest approach for the high-profile birth of her first child, said Nancy Chescheir, an obstetrician at the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. Yet scientific evidence suggests a hospital delivery under the care of an obstetrician isn’t necessarily best for routine births.

A 2008 Cochrane Collaboration review found women who used midwives have fewer interventions such as caesarean sections and episiotomies to widen the vagina during delivery, said Holly Powell Kennedy, a midwife and professor at Yale University’s School of Nursing.

Not America

“We are all baffled as to why Kate is having an obstetrician,” Sheena Byrom, a midwife based near Preston in northern England, said in an interview before the birth. “It’s not like America.”

The Duchess of Cambridge’s decision to pay for private care has hit a nerve in a country where almost two-thirds of births are supervised by midwives, the only option covered by the government-run health service for low-risk births. Queen Elizabeth II delivered her four children at home with midwives, said Louise Silverton, director of midwifery at the Royal College of Midwives.

“It’s a cultural thing,” Silverton said. “I don’t wait for doctors to tell me what to do, I make my own decisions.”

Midwives focus on high-touch, low-tech deliveries that can yield better results at a lower cost for healthy women, particularly because they’re less likely to use unnecessary medical equipment, said Angela Ferrari, a certified nurse midwife from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The role of midwives is so established in the country that it’s inspired the popular British Broadcasting Corp. television series entitled “Call the Midwife.” Obstetricians tend to step in for high-risk pregnancies or when complications develop.

Family Event

In the U.S., the system for prenatal care and delivery is based on the mother’s preference for a midwife or an obstetrician, according to the University of North Carolina’s Chescheir. Certified nurse midwives, the primary type of midwife in the U.S., care only for low-risk pregnancies and are supervised by an obstetrician.

Chescheir, herself an expert in complex, high-risk deliveries, is a fan of midwives, who she says tend to be more holistic, foster less of a medical environment and create a family event. Midwives delivered almost 12 percent of the 2.65 million infants born vaginally in 2011 in the U.S., the most recent statistics available, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.

No Slight

“I don’t think British women should feel they are being slighted as long as they have access to obstetrical specialists if a problem arises,” said Meg Berreth, a midwife and instructor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “A very brief perusal of literature would show you the average woman is getting exceptional, if not better care, with a midwife in the U.S. and Britain.”

Women can also get epidurals and pain medicine even if they are delivering with a midwife, according to Berreth.

“I don’t envy Kate Middleton,” she said, referring to the Duchess of Cambridge by her maiden name. “Every decision she makes becomes a statement.”

Some experts said it made sense for Kate to rely on an obstetrician, given the high-profile pregnancy and its accompanying stress, and risks that can quickly spiral out of control if a delivery starts to go wrong.
High Stakes

“I don’t like to think of one birth being any more important than another’s, but the stakes are extraordinarily high in this case,” Chescheir said. “When there is that much pressure on, it probably makes sense to have a lot of people on board. In obstetrics, when things go bad, they can go bad extraordinarily quickly.”

In the end, Kate made a personal decision choosing obstetricians over midwives, just as her late mother-in-law, Diana, did when she delivered both her boys in the same London hospital in the 1980s under doctor supervision.

“It’s very important that women feel safe during labor,” Berreth said. “For some women that means a hospital and for others that means a home.”

If you haven't already spent all your cash on royal baby memorabilia, why not buy some money to celebrate Prince George of Cambridge's birth?

The people at the Royal Mint wasted no time putting their commemorative coin to celebrate the July 22, 2013 birth of Kate Middleton and Prince William's son up for sale.

A £5 silver crown piece features the image of St. George and the Dragon, a recognizable image first engraved by Benedetto Pistrucci almost 200 years ago that has, per the Royal Mint's site, "become the definitive Sovereign." Each coin retails for £80, and according to the Royal Mint's website, they've already sold over 50 percent of the 10,000 coins created.

And if, perhaps, your royal baby betting paid off, you might be able to afford a gold Sovereign for £800. If you do though, act fast: Over 90 percent of the 2,013 created have already sold.

The director of the commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, Shane Bissett, said in a statement: "Even we are surprised by the fact that the Prince of Cambridge's name was announced just yesterday, and that the artists of the Royal Mint had already created a coin that bears the image of his namesake."

"Designers at the Royal Mint will often look to our archive of artworks for inspiration when they are creating new coin," he said, "and it could not have been more appropriate that they chose a depiction of St George."

Werk it, Royal Mint planners!

Cicolari and Menegatti di Luca Muzzioli

*We don't know why FIPAV continue to support the decision of Lissandro to separate Cicolari and Menegatti?
*Anyway, God bless Cicolari and Menegatti.

KLAGENFURT - Federvolley, specialista in harakiri.

Casalmaggiore: Confermate Bacchi e Olivotto

Mr. Chuck Berry - Johnny B Good

Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like a ringing a bell

(Chorus)
Go Go
Go Johnny Go
Go Go Johnny Go
Go Go Johnny Go
Go Go Johnny Go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Oh sit beneath a tree by the railroad track
Oh the engineers would see him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made
people passing by they would stop and say
'Oh my but that little country boy could play

(Chorus)
Go Go
Go Johnny Go
Go Go Johnny Go
Go Go Johnny Go
Go Go Johnny Go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

His mother told him 'some day you will be a man
And you will be the leader of a big ol' band
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down
Maybe some day your name will be in lights saying
Johnny B. Goode tonight

(Chorus)
Go Go
Go Johnny Go
Go Go Go Johnny Go
Go Go Go Johnny Go
Go Go Go Johnny Go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

On Tuesday, the duchess's parents dropped by St. Mary's Hospital to meet their grandson for the first time. When they exited the Lindo Wing shortly after 5 p.m. local time, Carole, with husband Michael Middleton by her side, told reporters excitedly the Prince of Cambridge is "absolutely beautiful!"
The future King of England is "doing really well," she said, adding that her first time holding the baby boy was "amazing."

As for new mum Kate and first-time father Wills? They're doing "fabulously," said Carole.
"We are so thrilled," she added.
We're thrilled, too, obviously! We just wish the prince's grandmum would've given a tiny hint at what he'll be called. But when a cheeky reporter asked if she'd given any of her own suggestions for the royal baby's name, Carole replied with a smile, "Absolutely not!"
Patience is a virtue...or so we're told.

'The Conjuring' by Todd Cunningham | The Wrap

Low-budget screamfest "The Conjuring" buried pricey ghost tale "R.I.P.D.' at the box office this weekend, with a stunning debut of $41.3 million – more than double its production budget. That's the best opening ever for an original R-rated horror film, topping the $34 million taken in by "The Purge" last month.

And it turned the box-office race into a blowout.

"R.I.P.D.," Universal's $130 million Ryan Reynolds-Jeff Bridges comic book-based tale of supernatural cops scared up just $12.7 million over the three days and finished seventh, making it one of the summer's biggest bombs.

This marks the fourth week in a row that a movie with a budget well over $100 million has tanked, coming in the wake of box-office belly flops by "White House Down," "The Lone Ranger" and last week's "Pacific Rim."

And "R.I.P.D." wasn't the only high-priced opener to misfire.

DreamWorks Animation's $135 million 3D family film 'Turbo" was overwhelmed by the minions of "Despicable Me 2." The tale of a snail with dreams of the Indy 500 sputtered to $21.5 million over the three days, giving it $31.5 million since its Wednesday opening.

"Despicable Me 2," the defending box office champ, fell to second but still brought in $25 million in its third week. With a $276 million domestic total, it's the year's highest-grossing animated film domestically, and has taken in $585 million at the worldwide box office for Universal.

The weekend's other wide opener, Summit's action comedy sequel 'Red 2," wound up in fifth with $17.9 million, less than the $21 million that the original debuted to October of 2010.
It was beaten out by the Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups 2," which brought in $20 million and has grossed nearly $80 million in two weeks for Sony.

"The Conjuring," directed by James Wan ("Saw") and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, got high marks from reviewers and audiences – rare for a horror film.

It has an 85 percent positive rating on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. And first night audiences – which broke down 53 percent female and 59 percent over 25 years of age -- gave it an "A-" CinemaScore.

"James Wan delivered a really smart, well-crafted film," Warner Bros. executive vice-president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein told TheWrap, "and I think that's the biggest reason that audiences responded the way they did. The whole real-life aspect of it ('The Conjuring" was based on a real-life case) resonated, too."

"R.I.P.D." was all but dead on arrival.

Universal held off on press screenings for the PG-13 rated tale directed by Robert Schwentke until the last minute, but when critics did see it, they loathed it. "R.I.P.D." has a dismal 11 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences, which were 53 percent male and 57 percent over 25 years of age, gave it a weak "C+" CinemaScore.

Coupled with the underwhelming "Turbo" debut, it gave "R.I.P.D." star Reynolds a dubious box-office double this weekend. He also voiced the main snail in the animated tale.

With a veteran cast that included Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Anthony Hopkins, "Red 2" targeted a mature audience. It connected, with 67 percent of those who saw it over 35 years of age, and that and the "B+" CinemaScore offer Summit hope that it will play solidly over the next few weeks.

Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" brought in nearly $16 million and has now grossed $68 million domestically after two weeks for Warner Bros.

Fox's comedy "The Heat" upped its domestic total to $129 million after four weeks with a $9.3 million weekend.

Brad Pitt's zombie thriller "World War Z" is on its way to $200 million at the domestic box office. The Paramount action film took in $5.2 million to up its North American total to $187 million after five weeks.

"Monsters University" added $5 million over the weekend and the animated sequel is up to nearly $250 million domestically. With another $284 million from foreign, the Pixar film has brought in $533 million globally in five weeks for Disney.

But the same studio's "The Lone Ranger" fell out of the top ten in its third week, landing at No. 11 with $4.2 million. The $225 million Johnny Depp-Armie Hammer take on the classic Western has taken in just $81 million domestically.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Royal Baby, Kate Middleton, Prince William

source:eonline.com

Duchess of Cambridge by Natalie Finn

The royal baby is coming!

Kate Middleton has gone into labor and is awaiting the birth of her and Prince William's first child at St. Mary's Hospital in London, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted this morning to St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London in the early stages of labor," read an official statement from the palace, released Monday morning, local time. "The Duchess traveled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."

Kensington Palace confirms Kate entered the hospital shortly before 6 a.m. local time and went into labor naturally.

"Things are progressing as normal," a spokesperson said.

And everyone's already on high alert: two policemen are currently guarding the hospital's front steps.

Will, who is on paternity leave from his post with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force, accompanied his wife to St. Mary's, where he himself was born 31 years ago. Both of them were accompanied by a bodyguard who has been on Kate's security detail for the past few months (and who also, incidentally, went along with Prince Harry on his royal trip to Las Vegas).

And now...we wait.

Dr. Marcus Setchell, former OBGYN to Queen Elizabeth II, will serve as head doctor in the delivery room on this oh-so-important day for the royal family. Dr. Alan Farthing, the queen's current surgeon/gynecologist, will also be on hand.

News of the royal birth will first come to us civilians when a proclamation, signed by the doctors who deliver the next heir to the British throne, is handed off to a royal aide at the entrance to St. Mary's exclusive Lindo Wing. Then the aide will take off for Buckingham Palace, where the ultimately historic document will be displayed on an easel set up in front of the palace gates.

The queen will know that she's expecting a visitor, of course, because William (or someone else with the queen's personal number) will have informed her already of her third great-grandchild's arrival.

While mom Carole and sister Pippa Middleton are expected to be in the delivery room along with her husband, the rest of Kate's immediate family will be notified at the same time as William's. British Prime Minister David Cameron will also be among the first to know.

Our best wishes to the parents-to-be (any minute now)!

Chieri/Torino: 29 giugno "Miracolo". 15 Luglio: "Esclusi" posted July 15, 2013
